I’m not sure it should be. I think it is more important to have *good* PE lessons that encourage you to do exercise throughout your life. To get enough exercise from PE lessons alone you’d need to have about 1.5 hours of PE a day (so that you can change, warm up and cool down). If you had two great lessons a week that made you want to join sports or exercise clubs after school, then you’d have more time in the school day to learn other things, like science 🙂

schools have a lot of other important things to teach you lot so I think it would be very hard to fit it in. I do think they should encourage you to do sport outside of the classroom though – I used to do sport 5 days a week after school, and I’m very grateful for it now!

I dont think it needs to be compulsory every day, like Mark and Jenni say. But I do think that doing sport or exercise twice a week at school is good. Schools can help introduce people to a range of sports so that you get the opportunity to ‘try a few out’ and see what you like or what you are good at. Then you can go and take that further outside of school if you want to.

But there is evidence that we learn better and remember more when we do exercise – so it’s actually good for the academic side of school too!
