• Question: do you use any chemicals in your work

      Yes.

      I use some very scary ones to stain my samples – they can cause blindness and cancer and all sorts of nasty things so I have to be really, really careful.

      I don’t use any chemicals in my work as I am mostly interested in finding out about how athletes think and feel. Some psychologists do study or use chemicals though. Some psychological problems are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain – so psychiatrists (who are a mixture of a doctor and a psychologist) can prescribe drugs/chemicals to help people with some types of psychological problems.

      Yes – calibrants and buffers for various blood analysers. Wet chemistry is not really my specialism though.

      No, no external chemicals in my area of research, i really don’t think i’d be trusted with them anyway!
