0 Question: How does extinction affect humans? Keywords: extinct, extinction, human, species Asked by grococka09 to Helen, Jenni, Mark, Martin, Stu on 20 Jun 2011.
Jenni Tilley answered on 20 Jun 2011:
Extinction of any species alters the food chain and so changes the ecosystem in some way. Ever part of the food chain plays a role within that chain, keeping things working and in balance. You only have to look at the effect of adding a new species to the food chain. For example: *rabbits in New Zealand (http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/rabbits/1) *new bacteria and pathogens in fish farming (http://www.thefishsite.com/articles/618/nodavirus-an-emerging-threat-to-freshwater-prawn-farming)
both illustrate how devistating the effects of playing with the food chain can be.
And anything that affects the food chain, affects us. 🙁
