I work just for myself so there are no colleagues around me: but I meet people all the time – my supervisor who I talk about my work and any problems with, the athletes who I support and their coaches, other researchers and people who are taking part in my research etc. That’s what I love about what I do – I get to meet so many interesting people, but I can still come back to my office and get some peace and quiet too.
This can range a great deal depending on what i’m doing each day. Sometimes if i’m analysing data i will be on my own all day (although i share an office with one other medical scientist). Other days if we are discussing new research areas we want to develop or move in to we may have meetings with a larger group of staff from the Sports Science department here in Bangor. There are about 50 staff in the whole department and the sport and health subject area is so inter-linked that i could end up having a discussion with any of them about a future area of study!
I have two bosses and three ‘advisors’. I work with two groups of people – there are 8 in one group and about 20 in the other group. We’re all doing different, but related, research.
