Before I can analyse my samples, I have to prepare them which takes a fair amount of time as I often have to cut very thin slices (0.01mm thick!). I then have to image or scan my samples, and then analyse the images/scans. Once I’ve analysed the images/scans, I then have a set of data which I analyse in excel to look for trends.
I use lots of different pieces of equipment, all of which produce different types of data. In general analysis requires either
1) analysis of a graph – for example working out the gradient of a line ()
4) analysis of relative amounts of colours in an image – for example how much of this image is blue and how much is pink ()?
It’s all a bit of an art, some more than others and it all takes time. Luckily there are some nice pieces of software to help, but I still spend about 50% of my time preparing and imaging/scanning my samples, and 50% of my time analysing my data.
