• Question: Is it possible for your brain to multitask efficiently? For instance listening to music and learning the lyrics whilst reading a book and remembering details.

      That’s a very good question.

      Lots of people multitask today – listening to music while doing their homework with the TV on in the background and their phone constantly showing them emails and texts. Lots of people think that this actually isn’t an efficient way to work – things take much longer and you’re not really concentrating so you don’t absorb information as well.

      I kind of agree – you only have to look at the effect of being on the phone, or even a hands-free device, while driving to see that doing more than one thing at one time is not very easily.

      To multitask effectively, you need to be able to balance tasks you don’t actually need to concentrate one with tasks that you do.
