      Personally, it is discovering new things and telling other people about them. Then there is the community of scientists around me: my “supervisors”, fellow lecturers, PhD students etc. that I spend most days with. These people are usually great fun. Finally, when we go to scientific conferences we get to meet the scientists who inspired us (assuming they are still alive!), and I’ve found that more often than not these “big names” are also normal people who are, like me, fascinated by what they study.

      Teaching people new things, and learning new things myself.
