When we sneeze the air, water particles and all the other gross things, fly out at over 100 mph! That’s enough to make a pretty loud noise! We make noise by making air travelling over and through our voice box in our throats. You’ll notice you can’t shout for very long, as the air has to come out faster to make a louder noise and we can only hold a certain amount in our lungs. So with the air coming out at 100 mph during a sneeze, it’s going to make a pretty big sound!

My sneezes are silent, and I sneeze with my eyes closed, but I sneeze at least 5 times in a row – my friends say I sneeze like a hamster!

I guess instinct is to sneeze ‘with gusto’ to give the best chance of get rid of the thing that’s irritating your nose. Personally I find that quite gross – imagine all the snot flying into the room!

I am able to do what Jenni does and I can ‘contain’ my sneeze if I need to, but I have to really try hard to overcome the urge to do a really loud one – and if I am alone, I definitely go for making as much noise as possible – it feels more satisfying
